What do you want? It’s a common question. In fact, you probably heard some form of it already today – perhaps from your barista or your significant other. But have you ever clarified what you want in your career? Once you have the answer, you can move intentionally in that direction. If you don’t know what you want, one day you will wake up and realize that you’ve been passed by those who know where they’re going. Clarify what’s important to you, take the time to think about what you want, and use your goals to inform the choices you make.
Does your job excite and fulfill you, or does it leave you scrolling “help wanted” ads on LinkedIn? Are you doing the work that you want to do, or are you doing the work that someone else thinks you should do? Next New Year’s Eve, what would you wish you had done differently this year? Is how you’re spending your time – at work and at home – helping you reach your goals, or is it simply a way to meander the days away? It’s time to be as honest with yourself as you are with the waiter taking your order, so go ahead and answer the question: What do you want?
